What is it?
This division, subsidised by Forest Baseball Club through sponsorship provided by Sapere Valuation, is described as “adaptive baseball” for children with special needs that allows every child to participate in baseball regardless of ability or limitations.
Teams are set up according to abilities, rather than age, and can include as many as 15 players. Games can be played as tee ball games, coach pitch, player pitch, or a combination of the three.
The program ensures every participant has the opportunity to play in a fun and safe environment where they build confidence and self-esteem and have the chance to improve their communication skills, and set and achieve their own personal or family goals.
About Forest Baseball Club
Forest Baseball has over 40 years’ experience in junior baseball and innovative program. All coaches are experienced baseball coaches and some of our buddies are new to our sport however will be well supervised. Most of our volunteers do not have specific or extensive experience with kids with disabilities however are all committed to providing the best possible program for your child(ren).
Buddies for players
These will be provided from Forest Baseball volunteers. Buddies over the age of 18 will have Working with Children certificates. You may also have a carer you can include with your child, which is also most welcome.
Suggested 8-15yr olds. We found most younger players fit into our U7’s program quite well and that there is a need for older children to have a specific team for all levels of care. We envisage that older children will have higher needs and assistance enabling combined aged teams.
$45 cost includes a Forest Baseball hat (to keep), playing top (on loan), field hire, all equipment and Baseball Association insurances and fees. A registration link will be provided on expression of interest.
Aquatic Reserve Baseball Fields
The standard field risk assessment will be implemented as per any baseball game, however these are standard playing facilities and each family will need to assess and determine fit for purpose for your child as games are played on dirt and some slightly uneven surfaces. Buddies will be assisting less mobile players, but we ask parents to inspect the grounds for suitability for your child.
Players with single sided mobility, on crutches, in walkers and wheel chairs are why we created this division. The Freedom division hopes to give access and freedom for your child to play baseball in the purest form.
As this is the inaugural season, there will be a wide range of players. As the program develops, we will adapt like ages and ability where at all possible.
Parents are most welcome to be on the field and assist if that is more suitable for your child’s need.
